Research Society (RANDA)

The Research Association of Notre Dame Australia (RANDA) is a sub-committee of MANDUS that aims to engage students with clinicians, researchers and health professionals across all medical disciplines.

RANDA’s main goal is to engage students in clinical and basic research through a range of free events and initiatives, and provide student support under the umbrella of MANDUS.

RANDA’s maintains a number of key initiatives throughout the year including:

  • Guest Speaker Nights: Each year RANDA organises speaker nights with prominent health professionals on a range of topics including clinical medicine, surgery, and niche interest topics (e.g., one year we had space medicine). These are inspiring and insightful, clinically-focused talks that will be beneficial and interesting for you and pitched at your level as a medical student, and enrich learning experiences at ND. Past speakers include Dr. Charlie Teo, Prof. Gordian Fulde AO, Prof. Stephanie Watson.
  • Exam Preparation Trivia Nights: RANDA hosts trivia nights to help you with your preparation for your exams. These are opportunities were you can go through some exam-level questions in a fun and food-filled way.
  • Research Opportunities for Students: RANDA maintains a lookout for research opportunities (including summer research scholarships) and will let you know when you can apply for them, and help you out choosing projects. These are great opportunities to get a foot in the door of research, possibly getting a publication, and getting yourself a head start at your MD project.
  • MD Project Enquires: RANDA also acts as a conduit between the MED1 and MED2 student bodies and the School of Medicine Sydney for all things MD project related. The RANDA chairs should be your first port of call if you have any questions about your MD project during these pre-clinical years.

Whether or not you have experience in research, please contact RANDA about what you need help with or what you are interested in.
