School of Medicine, Sydney campus

The University of Notre Dame, Sydney (Darlinghurst campus) is based in one of the most exciting and prestigious medical and research precincts in Australia.

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is a 4-year graduate-entry program which combines basic and clinical sciences, communication and clinical skills, population and public health, and personal and professional development. The curriculum is delivered principally through Problem Based Learning in small groups led by a clinician for the Foundation Years (Years 1 and 2) and then through clinical placements at eight clinical schools in Sydney, Melbourne and rural NSW and Victoria in the Clinical Years (Years 3 and 4).

The School of Medicine is proud of its strong emphasis on supporting every student individually to enable them to become excellent, caring and ethical doctors. To further this goal, we have an innovative program in bioethics and a focus on rural medicine, palliative care and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Our founding values include respect for human life, for each person’s dignity, social justice and ethics.

The University of Notre Dame Australia (Darlinghurst campus) is based in one of the most exciting and prestigious medical and research precincts in Australia, and all students will undertake a supervised applied medical research project during their MD program.

Work Integrated Learning

The School of Medicine provides hands-on experience through a structured and supervised program of workshops and clinical site visits in the first two years of your Doctor of Medicine program. In the final two years of the degree you will apply and develop your clinical skills and knowledge in the care of patients. Clinical attachments in Years Three and Four take place in a variety of hospital and community settings. Students are able to engage with patients, their families and the health care professionals caring for them.

The Darlinghurst campus houses two lecture theatres, a medical/nursing library (Benedict XVI Library), eight suites of simulated clinical consultation rooms, an eight-bed simulated hospital ward, clinical and procedural skills facilities, an Anatomy and Pathology Museum, tutorial rooms, 15 problem-based learning (PBL) rooms and staff offices.
