Global HANDS is the global health and social justice committee at the University of Notre Dame Sydney’s School of Medicine. As a group, we focus on improving health and achieving health equity for all people worldwide.
Global HANDS has four working groups
- Refugee & Asylum Seeker Health: advocating for the rights and health of refugees in Australia and around the world.
- Code Green: raising awareness and inspiring action on the health impacts of climate change; promoting sustainability amongst UNDS students and staff.
- Gender Equity & Sexual Health: promoting the rights of women worldwide, and raising awareness on sexual and reproductive health issues.
- Maternal & Child Health: working to support mothers and ensure all children have the best possible start to life.
Our main events each year include
- Speaker nights: organised regularly by each of the Global HANDs working groups, to raise awareness and inspire action on each of our priority issues.
- Global Health Conference: a delegation from Notre Dame attend this annual conference held in different cities around Australia – an amazing event to hear from high calibre, international speakers in the spheres of global health and equity.
- Red Party: raising awareness of, and funding for, the combat against HIV/AIDs.

- Birthing Kit assembly evening: supporting the Birthing Kit Foundation to provide vulnerable women with a clean and safe birthing environment.

- Social Justice Project Information Session: empowering first-year medical students to go out and change the world with their Social Justice Projects.
