Studying medicine can quickly become an all-consuming part of our lives, but before we concern ourselves with the health of others, we must build a solid foundation for our own health. The MANDUS Wellbeing Portfolio was instituted in 2012, by MANDUS leaders who recognised that as well as learning and practicing looking after others, doing it for our own health is just as important.
Health and Wellbeing does not stand alone in the MANDUS team. Concerning itself with the ‘whole person’ of the medical student, it brings together and integrates each of the portfolio areas. As such, the focus of the Health and Wellbeing program is mental health, establishing healthy study and lifestyle habits, developing a supportive Notre Dame community, and promoting social events where students have an opportunity to relax!
As a student organisation, our key goal is to provide advocacy for students on matters, which directly influence their health and wellbeing. In addition, the MANDUS Wellbeing team is a link for students to access support services such as counselling, chaplaincy and academic support.
Key MANDUS Wellbeing initiatives which will take place in 2017 include:
- The student Mentoring Program
- Wellbeing Wednesday
- Mental Health Week
- R U OK? Day
- Mindfulness sessions
- Yoga Workshops
- Wellbeing Picnics
The MANDUS Wellbeing Representative for 2017 is Nikita Naidu (MED2000).
