Volunteering Opportunities at Notre Dame

SotC Helping H@nd is a Notre Dame Chaplaincy’s initiative, which offers university students an opportunity to give back to the community in a variety of ways, including volunteer work with:

Redfern Meal Program – Every Tuesday and Friday, 9:00am – 11:00am

  • 117 Redfern Street, Redfern NSW 2016. Organiser: Jenny Carter 0407 977 180
  • More than 70 homeless people and others in need head to St Vincent’s Catholic Church in Redfern where a team of dedicated volunteers from across the city serve up a hearty breakfast – brunch.

Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen – Mondays to Fridays (mostly needed on Thursdays), 9:00am – 12:00 pm

  • 235 Devonshire Street (near Crown St), Surry Hills NSW 2010. Organiser: Sisters of the Missionaries of Charity 9318 2881
  • A soup kitchen in Surry Hills serving the homeless.

The Friar’s Van – Every Friday and Saturday evenings

  • Various areas within Sydney CBD. Organiser: Br. John Nguyen OFM Cap friarsvan@gmail.com
  • Serve coffee, hot chocolate and engage in conversation with those in need of someone to listen in Sydney CBD

 Eddie Dixon Centre – Mondays to Thursdays, 9:00am – 2:00pm

  • A soup kitchen in Paddington.

 Mount St. Joseph’s Nursing Home – Every Tuesday evening, 5:00pm – 6:00pm

  • Visits to the nursing home; engaging in conversations & activities with the elderly.

 Villawood Detention Centre visits with the Jesuit Refugee Service – Every week (TBC)

  • Visiting residents & listening to their experiences.
