From the 14th to the 16th of March the President of MANDUS (Bella Williams), Chris Lemon (NSWMSC representative) and myself (AMSA representative) represented the University of Notre Dame Sydney at our first AMSA council.
It was an extremely full agenda and raised many pertinent issues currently facing medical students around Australia. The major policies that were discussed and debated included internship availability, students mental health and wellbeing, fee deregulation, quality of clinical placements, funding of medical schools and the recent increase in the number of medical students Australia wide and how to manage this. There was also discussion around the introduction of a sexual harassment policy to be potentially implemented at the next council in July. It was a great experience and voting on behalf of the students and representing the University on many issues facing student currently and in future. It was also a fantastic opportunity to network with many other medical school representatives the views of UNDS with them all. I look forward to the next council!
